Coinbase Extension®

A user with the Administrator role will be responsible for the initial web3 set up including signing terms of service and designating the first Web3 Signer. They can designate themselves as the Web3 S

  1. Sign in to Coinbase

  2. Enter your 2-step verification code and click Verify or plug in and tap your existing Yubikey

  3. On the left side of the page, select Security.

  4. Under 2-step verification, click Security key and set it as your default 2FA using your YubiKey

    • Your YubiKey needs to be inserted into your USB-port. You'll see on-screen instructions to enroll the key. If you experience any issues enrolling, review the troubleshooting guide.

    • If you already have a Yubikey registered, you will need to verify with your existing Yubikey, unplug it and plug in the new one to complete the next step.

  5. Complete the prompts to register the new Yubikey

  6. Once your YubiKey is registered, sign in to Coinbase Prime

    • Note: Once your security key has been enrolled you can log in to Prime directly from prime.coinbase.com.

Web3 Signers will hold the web3 wallet keys on their mobile device and use the mobile app to sign all web3 wallet transactions. Users also can access your Coinbase Prime portfolio to view balances and activity, manage consensus activities, and verify your identity via video recordings.

How to set up the app:

  1. On an iOS mobile device, download the Coinbase Prime Approvals from the app store

    • Note: If you have previously downloaded a version from Testflight, do not delete it. Simply download the version directly from the app store to overwrite the original.

  2. Log in using your existing username and password.

  3. You can set your device to use passkey to save your credentials (key symbol on your keyboard)

  4. Verify with your Yubikey

    • If using a Yubikey USB 5Ci: plug in the lightning connector side of your key and tap the metal bars on either side with

    • If using a Yubikey USB A or C NCF: hold the Yubikey near the top of your device to activate it. It may take a few tries for this to complete successfully.

The extension is not publicly discoverable on the Chrome Store and must be accessed through a permission link via the Coinbase Prime web3 page or the link below. Please note: Auditors, Traders, and Approvers cannot view the extension. The extension link is only available after the key is generated and will be located on the right hand side for download.

  1. On your computer, log into Prime

  2. Click the web3 icon on the left navigation bar to access the web3 page

  3. Locate the prompts on the right hand side and click the arrow until you see the “Download Prime Extension'' prompt.

  4. Click visit Chrome store to get to the Prime Web3 Extension page.

  5. On the right hand side click the button labeled “Add to Chrome”

  6. Click the Puzzle icon on your Chrome browser and click the pushpin icon to pin it to your browser window

  7. Open the Chrome extension and Login using your existing Prime username and password

  8. Verify with your Yubikey by plugging into the computer port and tap the metal part

Please Note:

  • It is recommended to only have a single wallet extension installed on a given browser to avoid conflicts when interacting with Dapps

  • One simple way to isolate a wallet is to deactivate the corresponding wallet extension in the "Manage Extensions" menu in Chrome.
